Comments | Although I grew up only an hour away, surprisingly I had never skied at Ward when they were open until yesterday. Compared to the other metro Boston ski areas, they are very aggressive with snowmaking and are currently the only one of the 4 metro Boston ski areas open. They had three slopes open, Winter's Magic & White Out from the Triple, and Dream Maker from the carpet. While the two ways down from the summit weren't much different than any other run at the metro Boston areas, they were perfect for a few hours of night skiing. Unfortunately the classic Mueller T-bar wasn't running, but the newer Partek chairlift is also quite interesting because it utilizes lattice towers from the old Mueller double. They have a very nice, although small, lodge with a full bar, and a lighted patio area outside. The attention to detail at Ward was very nice with padded chairlift seats, bars to keep children from sliding under the safety bars, and outdoor carpeting around the base area to make it easier to walk in ski boots. With affordable midweek ticket pricing, it's definitely worth a stop if you're in the Boston area! |
